Police warn of arrests and legal action against non-consensual Holi celebrations

KATHMANDU, March 6: Police in Kathmandu have warned that anyone found playing Holi without consent will be arrested and face legal action. 

The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has deployed as many as 5,000 police personnel to provide security during the festival. According to the law, playing Holi without consent can result in a one-and-a-half-year jail sentence and a fine of up to Rs 10,000.

SSP Dhan Bahadur Karki has emphasized that throwing water and colors without consent will not be tolerated, and offenders will face strict consequences.

This warning comes as Nepal celebrates the spring festival of Holi or Fagu Poornima. The festival marks the arrival of spring and the harvest season and is widely celebrated in Nepal. However, the police are taking measures to ensure that the celebrations remain safe and respectful for all.
