6 terrorists killed in police encounter in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 23: Pakistan police killed six terrorists during an encounter in the country's northwest Lakki Marwat district, local media reported on Thursday.

Local media quoting official sources reported that the personnel of the Counter Terrorism Department of police raided a place on intelligence information in the Dodiwala area of the district in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province early Thursday morning.

The terrorists opened fire at police after they were asked to surrender, which led to a heavy exchange of fire, said the reports, adding that all six terrorists were killed on the spot.

Four of the killed were recognized as members of the banned terrorist organization Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, police said.

Police also found a large cache of ammunition, automatic guns and hand grenades from the possession of the terrorists.

An official source told Xinhua that the security forces also conducted an operation in the country's northwest tribal district of North Waziristan on Wednesday night and arrested six terrorists, including three suicide bombers, who were planning to attack the forces in the region.
