Khagraj Adhikari appointed CM of Gandaki Province
KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Khagraj Adhikari, former Home Minister and leader of CPN-UML, has been appointed the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province.
Prithivi Man Gurung, the Chief of Gandaki Province, appointed Adhikari to the post as per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
According to Article 168 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal, the Chief of Province shall appoint the leader of the parliamentary party commanding a majority in the Provincial Assembly as the Chief Minister and the Provincial Council of Ministers shall be constituted under his or her chairmanship. Likewise, in cases where no party has a clear majority in the Provincial Assembly, the Chief of Province shall appoint as the Chief Minister a member of the Provincial Assembly who is able to command a majority with the support of two or more parties representing the Provincial Assembly.
Adhikari has been backed by as many as 30 lawmakers in the Provincial Assembly.
