Sankata wins Aaha Rara Pokhara Goldcup

POKHARA, Jan. 7: Sankata Football Club has won the title of the 22nd edition of the Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup Football Tournament 2079. In a very exciting final match at Pokhara Stadium on Saturday, Sankata defeated Bhutanese Youth with a 3-2 score. The match ended in a 2-2 draw at the scheduled time. However, Sankata won the game by scoring a goal in extra time.
At the beginning of the game, Sankta took a 2-0 goal lead, but could not maintain that lead in the first half. Suraj Jyu Thakuri had given Sankata the lead in the 8th minute of the game. Nishan Khadka's cross was saved by Bhutanese Youth's goalkeeper Poojan Thapa Magar, but Suraj scored on the rebound. In the 35th minute of the same game, Mesuke Olemaeu doubled Sankata's lead. Mesuke converted Sunil Bal's corner into a goal.
With 2 goals behind, Rini Santillan scored in the 37th minute for the Bhutanese Youth, and the game came to a 2-1 goal position. Similarly, in injury time, Will Griffith brought Bhutanese Youth to a 2-2 draw. He scored a goal on the free kick of Dhiraj Thajali.
Then in the second half, the game was pushed to extra time as neither team scored any more goals. Captain Sunil Bal scored a goal in the 117th minute of the extra time and gave Sankata a thrilling 3-2 victory. Sunil converted Mesuke Olemaeu's pass into a goal.
Sankata has won the Aaha Rara title for the second time, with the first win back in 2077 B.S.
