Vice President rejected by Maoist leader Haribol Gajurel
KATHMANDU, Dec. 28: CPN Maoist Center Deputy Secretary General Haribol Gajurel has rejected the Vice President post. After the party chairman and Prime Minister Prachanda offered Gajurel the position of vice president, he refused the post.
Leaders like Subas Nemwang, Ashtalakshmi Shakya, Amrit Bohra, and others from UML have expressed their desire for the post of President. Prachanda proposed to Gajurel after getting the post of Vice President in Maoist share. "I have not thought of taking a break from politics yet. I am thinking of working in an executive position of the party'' while talking to Ratopati, Gajurel said, ''I have said that I won't take the post of president. There is no plan to take other posts as well.
Gajurel said that he won't take Vice President because there are many reforms to be made in the party. ''We have to make a party first. If the party is strong and effective, we can take any position. Now if the party is not strong, what use is it no matter what position you take?'' He said, ''That's why I was looking for an executive role since the convention to form the party.''
There is a constitutional provision that the President and Vice President should be of different genders or communities. In such a situation, if the President is a woman, there is a provision that the Vice President can be a man.
