Infamous serial killer Charles Sobhraj released from jail

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The government released the infamous serial killer Charles Sobhraj from jail on Friday.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court had issued an order to release Sobhraj who was in jail for the past 19 years. Sobhraj’s  legal team successfully filed a petition claiming he should be given a concession on his prison term due to his age, 78, and good behavior.
A provision in Nepalese law allows inmates who have shown good character and completed 75% of their jail term to be released.
Sobhraj has been linked to more than 20 killings between 1972 and 1982, in which the victims were drugged, strangled, beaten or burned.
