Indian private train delivers goods to Nepal for the first time
KATHMANDU, September 15: Breaking the Indian Government monopoly in Nepali dry ports, an Indian private train company - has delivered goods in Nepal for the first time in history.
A train of Hind Terminal Private Company arrived in Birgunj Dry Port carrying 90 containers at around 10 AM on Wednesday from Haldia Dock.
According to Ashish Gajurel, director of the Intermodal Transportation Development Board, the private train companies in India have officially begun to provide service to Nepal as per an agreement reached between Nepal and India in July, 2021.
Prior to this, only trains owned by the Indian government used to deliver goods to dry ports in Nepal.
