Huge public outcry erupts against introduction of ordinance by govt
KATHMANDU, August 18: The government introduced an ordinance that allowed political parties to split, on Tuesday. Following this move of the government, a huge public outcry has erupted. Most people objected to this government move.
Most of the mainstream newspapers and media houses have published editorial against this move of the government, on Wednesday. Mainstream newspapers like Kantipur Daily and Nagarik Daily have strongly opposed the government’s move. Most media outlests have stood against the government in this regard.
The case is no different in social media. Social media walls are seen flooded with posts or tweets against the ordinance. Civil leader Dr Devendra Raj Oandey, Krishna Pahadi, Lok Raj Baral, Shyam Shresth among others have expressed serious concern over the government’s decision.
Political leaders like Gokarna Bista, Bim Rawal, Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai, Dr Shekar Koirala among others have also expressed similar opinions.
The government on Tuesday introduced the ordinance ending the parliament session effective from Monday midnight. With the introduction of the ordinance any party can now be split if only 20 percent of either the central committee or parliamentary party are in the favour of splitting the party.
According to the spokesperson of the government and the Minister of Law, Gyanendra Karki, the ordinance was introduced through the agreement of the coalition government.
The main opposition party CPN-UML has expressed its serious concern over the introduction of the ordinance stating that it has been introduced in the view of splitting the party.
