UML to have 225-member Central Committee
KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The main opposition party, CPN-UML will have a 225-member Central Committee.
The party statute amendment endorsed by a Standing Committee meeting on Monday proposed the 225-member Central Committee.
A new provision of electing all the office bearers apart from the party chairperson and general secretary has also been introduced in the proposal.
According to Sher Bahadur Tamang, the secretary at the UML party office, the existing provision of politburo and alternative central committee members has been removed. With this, the party will have a Standing Committee and Central Committee.
The recent amendment also proposed to reduce the number of chairpersons while the number of secretaries will be increased. Similarly, the party's provincial committee will also be made an executive entity.
The newer provisions will come into force once it is endorsed by the party's Central Committee.
Vice Chairperson Bamdev Gautam shared that the SC meeting decided to forward the proposal to the Central Committee meeting.
Earlier, a SC meeting also decided to organize the Statute Convention on September 12 and 13.
A Statute Amendment Drafting Task Force was formed under the leadership of Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Poudel.
