Gandaki CM Gurung seeking vote of confidence today

POKHARA, June 10: Prithvi Subba Gurung, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, who was reappointed on May 12 as the leader of the largest political party in the province, is taking a vote of confidence from the Gandaki Province Assembly on Thursday.

Chief Minister (CM)  Gurung is required to obtain a vote from the province assembly within 30 days of his appointment as the chief minister as per the Article 167 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal.

He should garner at least 31 votes to win the trust motion in the 60-member province assembly and remain intact as the executive head of the province. Gurung, however, has the support of only 28 assembly members including an independent lawmaker.

The opposition alliance comprising the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) stands strong with 31 votes. All four parties issued a whip to their lawmakers to vote against the motion on Wednesday.
