DPM Mahato reiterates Nepal is multi-nation state
KATHMANDU, June 5: Despite being dragged into controversy after a statement made shortly after assuming the office on Friday evening, the Deputy Prime Minister and a leader of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) reiterated that Nepal should be established as the multi-nation state as it is full of diversity.
“Nepal should not remain as a single-nation state, however, it should be operated as a multi-nation state,” said Mahato, addressing a program in Nepal’s capital on Saturday afternoon.
Mahato, who led the JSP in the KP Sharma Oli-led Cabinet, was of the view that multiple communities are lagging behind due to the presence of a single-nation state. On the occasion, he also directed fellow Cabinet members from the party to keep party’s policies in mind while discharging their duty as the ministers.
The JSP joined the Oli-government despite a faction led by Updendra Yadav had insisted on not being a part of the government. The Yadav-faction, however, formed an alliance of opposition parties and filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court demanding the reinstatement of the House which was dissolved on May 22.
DPM Mahato made a similar statement on Friday evening, which was criticized by various political leaders and people from different walks of life.
