Nepal reports 843 new cases of COVID-19

17 children below 9 years of age tested positive for infectious disease in the past 24 hours

KATHMANDU, April 17: A total of 843 new cases of coronavirus disease were reported in the country in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). 

The new cases were confirmed through the 6,004 tests-- 5,333 RT-PCR and 671 antigen tests. Of the new cases recorded on Saturday, 768 were detected through RT-PCR tests while 75 others were detected through antigen testing. 

The ministry also shared that two persons died of the virus infection in the past one day taking the death tally to 3,075. .

With the recent update, the number of coronavirus caseloads reached 283,658 in the country.  Of the latest infected ones, the number of children upto nine years old is 17 while the number of infected from age group 10-19 is 72. 

Likewise, the ministry said that a total of 226 individuals gained recovery from the virus in the past 24 hours. The COVID-19 recovery rate of  Nepal stands at 97 percent. 

Meanwhile, health desks have been set up in major border points along the Nepal-India border to confirm the status of corona infection on Nepalis arriving home from the Indian cities.
