8 killed in clash in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province
Eight people including six militants and two security personnel were killed as a clash broke out in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province on Monday, provincial police spokesman Ahmad Jawed Basharat said.
The clash erupted after a group of Taliban militants attacked the security checkpoints in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the restive province early morning, triggering heavy fighting which lasted for a couple of hours. The militants fled after leaving six bodies behind.
Two security personnel were also killed in the fighting, the official said. Six more security personnel and eight insurgents were injured.
The security forces would continue to chase the militants in Baghlan-e-Markazi district and its vicinity, Basharat said. Taliban militants who are active in parts of Baghlan province have yet to comment.RSS
