Prachanda calls current government formation unconstitutional
Kathmandu, January 14 — Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Center), Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', revealed that President Ramchandra Poudel was pressured by CPN (UML) and other forces to block the formation of a government under Article 76(3) of the Constitution.
Speaking at a press meet organized by the Press Center Nepal in Sukute, Sindhupalchok, Prachanda revealed that the formation of the current government was unconstitutional.
Prachanda accused the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) of forming a non-transparent, unnatural, and unconstitutional government at midnight, and mentioned that he had strategically opposed the formation of the current KP Oli-led government in Parliament.
Prachanda stated that after his trust vote failed, the leader of the Nepali Congress should have become the Prime Minister, but the Congress and UML violated the Constitution.
"To block this opaque and unnatural government, I chose to go for a floor test in Parliament. After I failed to secure enough votes of confidence, the leader of the Nepali Congress should have become the Prime Minister. However, they (Congress and UML) violated the Constitution," Prachanda said.
"According to my understanding, there was immense pressure on the President, putting him in a moral dilemma. Therefore, I have called this government unconstitutional."
However, Prachanda claimed that the Oli government will not last long and argued that it will be primarily brought down due to dissatisfaction within the Nepali Congress.
