Jay Trophy: Nepal Police Club takes 45-run lead over Madhesh Province

Kathmandu, January 8 — In the second match of the Jay Trophy cricket tournament, the Nepal Police Club gained a 45-run lead over the Madhesh Province team.

By the end of the first day of the match on Wednesday, Police Club had scored 174 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their first innings.

Police Club's opener, Kushal Bhurtel, contributed 63 runs, including 10 fours.

Another opener, Dilip Nath, scored 40 runs.

Other notable contributions came from batsmen Amit Shrestha and Gulshan Jha.

Madhesh Province's bowlers, Harishankar Sah and Abhishek Tiwari, claimed one and two wickets, respectively.

Madhesh Province was bowled out for just 129 runs. Opener Mayan Yadav played a brilliant knock of 59 runs, including two sixes and five fours. However, other batsmen struggled to score runs.

Police Club's bowler, Gulshan Jha, was the standout performer, taking 5 wickets and restricting Madhesh Province's total score.

Currently, Bagmati Province leads the points table with 15 points, followed by Madhesh Province and Police Club with equal points in second and third place.

Army Club, with 14 points, holds the fourth position in the Jay Trophy standings. Although their two previous matches ended in a draw, Army Club is in fourth place due to bonus points.

The tournament is organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). The Jay Trophy is one of the prestigious domestic cricket tournaments in Nepal, and it continues to be a platform for selecting players for national team selection.

The tournament features four teams, with the initial phase consisting of two-day matches.

The final match will be a three-day affair, as confirmed by CAN. The tournament is named after Jaykumar Nath Shah, a former president of CAN, who initiated the Jay Trophy in 1980.

For a long time, the Jay Trophy served as the basis for the selection of players for the national team.

In the Jay Trophy, players wear white jerseys, and the matches are played with a red ball.

The captain of Nepal Police Club is Arif Sheikh, while the captain of Bagmati Province is Sandeep Lamichhane.

Madhesh Province is led by Harishankar Sah, and Army Club is captained by Binod Bhandari.
