Maoist Center demands resignation of PAC Chair Pokharel

Kathmandu, December 23 — The CPN (Maoist Centre) has demanded the resignation of the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Rishikesh Pokharel.

During a meeting of the committee on Monday at Singha Durbar, Maoist Centre MP Amanlal Modi called for Pokharel's resignation.

The Maoist Centre raised concerns over the chairman's ties to a cooperative and argued that the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee should be held by the leader of the opposition.

Modi stated, “There are questions about the chairman. The cooperative scam is connected to your family. When such questions are raised, you must provide an answer.”

Chairman Pokharel's wife, Anjala Koirala, along with 26 others, has been accused in a case of embezzlement related to funds from the Umagauri Agricultural Cooperative in Morang's Dhanpalthan-3.

Modi also expressed frustration during the meeting, pointing out that it had been a long time since the committee last met.

He said, “When it comes to checks and balances, the Public Accounts Committee is responsible. However, your party is in government, and the committee is becoming a shadow of the government. It would be good to reconsider this matter.”

Modi emphasized that Chairman Pokharel should facilitate the process of checks and balances.
