Parliament meeting adjourned for one week after quorum not reached

KATHMANDU, Aug 29: The House of Representatives meeting has been adjourned for a week after the quorum was not reached.

In the meeting held on Tuesday, there was a good presence of the MPs while the Prime Minister was answering the questions raised by the MPs, but the number of MPs dwindled as the MPs walked out of the meeting during the theoretical discussion on the 'Bill 2080 to amend some Nepal Acts'.

After Speaker Devraj Ghimire was about to present the ‘Bill 2080 to amend some Nepal Acts’, Rastriya Swatantra Party MP Sumana Shrestha objected to the rules and demanded a count of MPs saying that the quorum was not enough.

Similarly, UML MP Damodar Paudel Bairagi also raised questions about the quorum and requested not to proceed with the Bill presentation.

When the Speaker rang the bell for 3 minutes to count the number of parliamentarians, there were only 59 of the 69 parliamentarians required to conduct the meeting.

Then, Speaker Ghimire adjourned the rest of the agendas of the House as the quorum was not reached and adjourned the meeting to one week later on the 4th of September at 1 pm.
