10 Naxals killed in gunfight in India

NEW DELHI– At least 10 Naxals were killed Thursday in a fierce gunfight with government forces in central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, police said. 


The gunfight broke out inside Bhairamgarh forest area in Bijapur district, about 365 km south of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. 


"This morning in a fierce gunfight between Naxals and joint police teams of special task force (STF) and the district reserve guard (DRG), 10 Naxals were killed," a police official posted in Bijapur said. "The police teams were out in the area on an anti-Naxal operation." 


According to the official, 10 bodies and 10 assault rifles were recovered from the spot, and search operations are underway in the area.Police said their men have not suffered any damage in the stand-off. 


New Delhi has deployed several companies of its paramilitary forces to take on Naxals insurgency in their strongholds. Enditem
