Nepal Army restores Kandrang Gadhi in Dhading

Dhading–Nepal Army (NA) has restored the Kandrang Gadhi, a fort, located at Rorang Rural Municipality-2 in Benighat of southern part of Dhading district. 


The Fort was built by the Sen Kings of Makawanpur before Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal, unified Nepal. It was built around 200 years ago to safeguard the Sen Kingdom from invasion and attacks by external forces. 
Situated at 1,450 metres above the sea level, the Fort lies at a place that is 22 kilometres away travel on Malekhu-Bhandara Tourism Chepang Road Section from the Prithvi Highway. 


The Fort was in ruins in lack of protection. But thanks to the tireless two days of work by 80 personnel deployed by the NA's Devidutta Battalion, Gajuri which has helped this dilapidated Fort regain its glory, shared NC Major Gaurav Silwal. 


Nepal Army has been conducting a special study about the historical forts prior and after the unification of Nepal, areas of strategic importance and Forts to protect and promote these places for the future generation, Battalion's Chief Major Sudeep Baniya said. 


Locals said that the Fort emerged into the sight after an excavation while stone engrave and other historical materials were lost. 


Around 50-60 people can be accommodated in the Fort which surrounding has a population of the Chepangs. 
During the restoration, an auxiliary Fort and trenches were also found. Some trenches were found to be blowing hot air too, added Rorang Rural Municipality-2 Chairperson, Tanka Bahadur Thapa. 


He said that the Rural Municipality would also undertake the initiative to conserve the Fort and promote it.
