Proposal on public importance to combat flood caused damages

Kathmandu - In today's second meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, opposition CPN (UML) lawmaker Bhim Bahadur Rawal presented a proposal of public importance for the long-term government policy and programme on the resolution of the flood and landslides caused disasters.

Lawmaker Rawal said that the present problem of flooding and inundation was caused due to embankment and dams built by India in the bordering areas.

He asked the inundated districts to be declared as flood-hit area and provide Rs 500,000 to the victim's families and provide Rs 100,000 to every survivor immediately.

Rawal also expressed displeasure over the government's reluctance to hold consultations with the opposition party on the issue.

The proposal has incorporated the cases of human casualties and disappearance and losses caused from the flooding and landslides in different parts of the country, especially in the Tarai region.

Lawmakers Rishikesh Pokharel, Shatrudhan Mahato and Krishna Bhakta Pokharel seconded the proposal.

Discussion on the proposal is on and the lawmakers remaining to make their deliberations on the issue would put their opinions in tomorrow's meeting, Speaker Onsari Gharti said.

The next meeting of the House shall take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday.
