Lamahi – The bamboo-made huts are visible everywhere in flood affected area of Dang. It has been a compulsion for the flood survivors to survive life and livelihood in the huts made up of bamboo.
The victims could not re-build their houses as of today after the 2014 flood swept away their physical properties including houses.
It is very difficult to survive life under huts in the winter season, said Jeet Bahadur Chaudhary, a flood victim of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-11, Motipur. “We were always under threat of flood blowing away our huts in the summer. The biting cold is a great menace to life in the winter”, he added.
The government had decided to provide Rs 75,000 each to flood survivors for the construction of house, shared Sharad Chaudhary, another flood victim. “The bamboo is decaying so it is uncertain when the huts will get collapsed”, he said.
The victims have not been able to reconstruct their houses since the flood devastation owing to government apathy to provide them the grants pledged earlier.
Though the government earlier had pledged to provide the grant on four tranche, the victims have only received two installments to this date, Chaudhary complained.
However, Santosh Yadav, engineer at Housing Division Office, said it was the responsibility of District Administration Office to provide relief amount to the survivors. “The Housing Division Office is responsible to prepare the map of house construction The DAO is to provide relief based on this”, he clarified.
Yadav further shared a total of 250 homeless families were provided grant amount of Rs 6.25 million at the rate of Rs 25,000 each in 2014. ---
