Ailing PM Oli to be kept under observation for some days

Kathmandu –  Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is receiving treatment at Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for chest infection, will be kept under observation for some days, said the doctors involved in his treatment.

"PM Oli is under observation after administering him antibiotic and insulin for maintaining his glucose level. There are improvements in PM Oli's chest infection. His other health is also improving. We expect his discharge soon," said Prof Dr Uttam Krishna Shrestha, executive director of the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre.

Oli, also Chairperson of the Communist Party of Nepal, was admitted to the hospital today at 4:30 am after suffering a 'minor' ailment. He is receiving treatment from the mobile coronary care unit (MCCU).

The hospital informs about PM Oli's health condition every two times a day through a statement. A three-member team of PM's private doctors Dr Dibya Singh and Dr Santa Das led by senior cardiologist Dr Arun Sayami is attending to PM Oli.

Asked by journalists whether the Prime Minister has to be taken abroad for further treatment, the Prime Minister’s private physician Dr Singh said this would be known after the Teaching Hospital’s ‘observation’.

Dr Singh said although the situation did not require that the Prime Minister has to be kept in MCCU, he has been kept in the unit for rest and treatment due to the crowd of people coming to see him.
Dr Kundan Aryal, the Prime Minister’s press advisor, said the PM himself boarded on car and went to hospital this morning as the seasonal cold and cough and slight fever he has been suffering from did not subside. Dr Aryal said that the Prime Minister’s health condition was not serious.

Prime Minister Oli, who has undergone kidney transplantation, used to go to Thailand for follow-up in the past. He had gone to his home district Jhapa to celebrate Dashain. Back to Kathmandu from Jhapa, he became busy in offering tika to the party cadres and the members of the general public daily. So, he had been slightly under exhaustion during the Dashain.
