Nepali Congress Leader Nain Singh Mahar Warns Against Government Undermining Democratic and Constitutional Order

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Nain Singh Mahar has stated that all parties must remain vigilant as the current government is tearing down the rule of law and mocking the democratic and constitutional system. Mahar said this while addressing the 13th general assembly of the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies.

Discussing the contribution of millions of Nepali workers sweating abroad, he said that their sacrifice sustains the country's economy, but the government is bent on demeaning the businessmen. He said, 'Behind every remittance, there is a family's dream, a mother's wait, and a child's future. Therefore, respecting the workers and protecting their rights is our shared responsibility.'

In his address, Mahar expressed the view that everyone must remain alert to prevent the weakening of democratic values, the rule of law, and commitment to the constitution. Expressing concern over government activities that are attacking the institutions built by the people through movements, he said, 'If any power or tendency attempts to weaken the democratic and constitutional structure, civil society, political parties, the private sector, and all citizens need to be vigilant.'

He mentioned that democracy is not just a system of governance but the basis of citizens' rights, freedom, and opportunities, and that protecting the spirit of the constitution and democratic institutions is everyone's shared responsibility.

At the end of his address, he emphasized that all parties must cooperate to make the foreign employment sector safe, organized, and dignified, and to connect the capital, skills, and experience gained from abroad with national prosperity.
