Department Fines 12 Businesses Including Central Canteen for Quality Issues

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection has taken action against 12 business firms, including the central canteen at Singha Durbar, for finding irregularities during market monitoring.

The department imposed fines and gave directives to firms that violated the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS during its regular monitoring on Friday.

According to the department, 'G&B Cafe Group' (Central Canteen) operating inside Singha Durbar has been fined Rs 201,000. The department stated that the canteen was fined as per the Consumer Protection Act for using substandard goods.

During the monitoring, goods worth Rs 6,560, including substandard split chickpeas, Nepali almonds, and eggs found in the canteen, were also destroyed.

Similarly, 'Jai Chhuma Ganesh Pure Drinking Water Pvt. Ltd.' in Changu Narayan, Bhaktapur, has been fined Rs 10,000. Action was taken against the water industry for selling products without proper labeling (details).

During the monitoring, 10 other firms were given general directives.
