Rastriya Swatantra Party Koshi Province Election Vote Counting Underway

Biratnagar. The vote counting for the election of the new leadership of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Koshi Province is underway. 702 out of 901 voters cast their votes in the election held on Wednesday night. 

RSP has stated that a 61-member provincial committee including the chairman will be selected from the convention. Goma Tamang, the current acting provincial chairman from Sunsari, Chandrabahadur Rai from Morang, Dr. Khagendra Katuwal from Tehrathum, and Chandrakumar Gauli from Jhapa are in the electoral field for the post of chairman.

The RSP's statute has a provision that 51 percent of the valid votes must be obtained to be elected chairman. If any candidate does not receive the required votes, there will be a second round of competition between the two candidates who receive the highest votes.

Approximately 156 people have filed nominations for the provincial members. After 61 members are selected from the first phase, the remaining office bearers will be elected from among them. Earlier, there was an internal dispute regarding the selection of leadership at the ongoing convention held at the Jaycees building in Virat Chowk, Morang.
