Government Increases Civil Servant Salaries by 21%

Kathmandu. The government has significantly increased the salary scale to boost the morale of civil servants and address the pressure of inflation. 

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, during his budget speech for the fiscal year 2083/084 presented in the Federal Parliament, informed that the starting salary scale for employees has been increased by 10 percent. Considering that the salaries of employees have not been increased for the last four years, this new arrangement has been implemented while continuing the existing inflation allowance. 

During the budget statement, Finance Minister Wagle stated that the salary has been increased by 10 percent in the starting scale and an additional 10 percent monthly incentive allowance has been arranged to provide remuneration based on performance. The government believes this new performance-based incentive allowance will make public services more result-oriented and professional. He stated that with this new arrangement, employees will see a total increase of approximately 21 percent in their current remuneration. 

With this salary increase, the minimum salary including grade for civil, military, and teachers will now range from approximately Rs 40,000 to over Rs 100,000. That is, the minimum for lower-level employees will be Rs 40,000 and over Rs 100,000 for high-ranking officials. The new salary will be effective from Shrawan 1.
