Industry Minister Gauri Kumari Claims Confusion Over MRP Implementation Removed

Kathmandu. Industry, Commerce and Supplies Minister Gauri Kumari has claimed that the confusion seen in the implementation of Maximum Retail Price (MRP) has been removed. 

She said so while responding to the queries related to the ministry in the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday. 

Minister Kumari stated that the government has removed the confusion regarding MRP through regular coordination with stakeholders. She also informed the parliament that the government has approved the necessary action plan for the effective implementation of MRP and import regulation laws and has assigned the responsibility of ensuring whether imported goods have MRP to the Customs Department. 

Speaking at the meeting, she said, 'As per the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, it is mandated to implement and rigorously monitor the Maximum Retail Price (MRP). For the effective implementation of the laws related to MRP and import regulation, the Ministry has approved an action plan and assigned the responsibility to the Customs Department to ensure whether imported goods have MRP. Also, I want to inform you that the Department of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection under the Ministry monitors this matter. Although some confusion was created initially regarding the implementation of Maximum Retail Price (MRP), I want to inform you that this issue has become normal after regular coordination with stakeholders.'

Minister Kumari also said that the government has made appropriate arrangements for the effective implementation of the Consumer Protection Act. Besides this, she informed that the government has also succeeded in removing the obstacles seen in exporting Nepali tea to India.
