FEKAN Welcomes Government Monitoring of Educational Consultancies, Urges Sensitivity

Kathmandu. The Independent Educational Counseling Association Nepal (FEKAN) has made its stance public regarding the monitoring and surveillance process being carried out by the police administration under the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Nepal in various educational counseling institutions.

The association has mentioned that it is always committed to maintaining the trust of students and parents by adopting ethical practices by businessmen.

Since students send tuition fees and other charges to the concerned educational institutions through the banking system after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Government of Nepal, FEKAN states that it is inappropriate to create confusion regarding deposits or unnecessary additional fees. Furthermore, the association has stated that it has been continuously alerting its member institutions and taking necessary coordination and improvement initiatives in the context of some irregularities and unhealthy practices seen in this sector.

FEKAN has stated that it views the current monitoring process by the Government of Nepal and the police administration positively and welcomes it. However, the association has mentioned that some educational counseling institutions that have completed all legal procedures and monitoring by the concerned bodies are facing business difficulties due to not being able to obtain timely renewals, registrations, and approval letters from the Provincial Ministry of Social Development, education-related bodies, and government offices that grant permission.

FEKAN has urged the police administration to conduct the monitoring campaign with further sensitivity and coordination only after understanding the necessary realities from the concerned ministries and bodies regarding such matters.

Similarly, FEKAN states that it is a sensitive issue from a legal and ethical perspective to publicize the personal details, photographs, or institutional identity of businessmen who are under investigation and inquiry until they are proven guilty by the court or concerned bodies. FEKAN has requested the concerned administrative bodies and media to not unnecessarily publicize such materials and to present them responsibly, keeping in mind the privacy, reputation, and morale of the businessmen.

FEKAN has stated that it is committed to collaborating with the government, stakeholders, and businessmen to make the educational counseling sector more responsible, organized, transparent, and student-friendly.
