Five Youths Achieve Self-Reliance Through Collective Watermelon Farming in Dang

Dang. Five youths from Dangisharan Rural Municipality-1 Rampur have started collective watermelon farming. They have become self-reliant by cultivating watermelons on land along the banks of the Babai River.

Krishna Chaudhary said that they started collective farming with the intention of doing something in their own country. They said they started farming with the belief that they can become self-reliant in their own country.

Currently, they are cultivating Aahana, Puja, Saraswati, Divya, and Sweethoney varieties of watermelon on 12 katthas of land in the village, he informed. Aahana is currently being sold in the village for Rs 80 per kilo, and Sweethoney, Saraswati, Puja, and Divya varieties of watermelon are being sold for Rs 50 per kilo. Daily sales from the village range from one hundred to one and a half kilos.

After the watermelon season ends, they plan to cultivate peanuts and other vegetables.
