Nepali Congress Factions Hold Parallel Regional Gatherings

Kathmandu. Within the Nepali Congress, the establishment faction and the former president Sher Bahadur Deuba group are holding parallel regional gatherings. The committee formed under Gagan Thapa's leadership through a special general convention is holding 'Province and Local Level Focused Province Level Gatherings' in all seven provinces by making decisions from the Central Policy, Research and Training Academy.< /p>

The Deuba group is holding province-level gatherings in the name of preparing for the party's broad unity and the 15th general convention. Both groups have assigned responsibilities to leaders for the gatherings.< /p>

The establishment faction has determined the dates and venues for gatherings in all locations, while the Deuba group still has to finalize the venues and dates for some provinces.< /p>

As per the decision of the party's Central Policy, Research and Training Academy meeting held on Jestha 23, the establishment faction has already completed gatherings in Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces, while the gathering that started in Gandaki on Thursday is concluding today.< /p>

The Sudurpashchim Province Level Gathering was held in Dhangadhi, Kailali on Jestha 26 and 27, and the Karnali Province Level Gathering was held in Lekbesi, Surkhet on Jestha 28 and 29. The Gandaki Province Level Gathering is being held in Pokhara, Kaski on Jestha 31 and Jestha 1 (today). Chairman Gagan Thapa, Vice-President Bishwaprakash Sharma, who is also the head of the Academy, and other officials are addressing the gatherings.< /p>

The Academy has scheduled the Bagmati Province Level Gathering for Jestha 4 and 5 in Dhulikhel, Kavre, the Madhesh Province Level Gathering for Jestha 6 and 7 in Bardibas, Mahottari, the Koshi Province Level Gathering for Jestha 8 and 9 in Laukahi, Sunsari, and the Lumbini Province Level Gathering for Jestha 14 and 15 in Tilottama, Rupandehi.< /p>

Meanwhile, the Deuba group has assigned responsibilities to leaders to hold gatherings in all 7 provinces in the name of preparing for the party's broad unity and the 15th general convention. According to Deuba group leader Min Bishwakarma, leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula for Koshi Province, Anand Prasad Dhungana for Madhesh Province, leaders Prakashman Singh and Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat for Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province Vice-President Mekhalal Shrestha for Gandaki Province, leader Kishor Singh Rathor and Lumbini Province Vice-President Raju Khanal for Lumbini Province have been assigned responsibilities.< /p>

Former Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi has been assigned responsibility for Karnali Province, and leader NP Saud and Sudurpashchim Province Chairman Bir Bahadur Balayar have been assigned responsibility for Sudurpashchim Province.< /p>

Accordingly, gatherings have already been completed in two provinces. Bishwakarma informed that gatherings were completed in Koshi on Jestha 29 and in Bagmati on Jestha 30. A gathering is scheduled for Karnali on Jestha 2. Former Acting Chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka has reached Surkhet to participate in the gathering. He mentioned on his social media Facebook that he reached Surkhet for the gathering. Currently, Khadka is leading the Deuba group.< /p>

According to Bishwakarma, a gathering is scheduled for Gandaki on Jestha 9. However, the dates and venues for gatherings in the remaining provinces have not yet been finalized.< /p>

When Ratopati asked Bishwakarma, 'Why are you holding gatherings?', he replied, 'The thought group of the 14th General Convention elected Chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba is holding gatherings for the rejuvenation and preparation of the 15th General Convention for the broad unity of the party.'< /p>

In response to another question, 'Isn't this parallel activity within the party?', Bishwakarma stated that gatherings and deliberations held by those not in the Central Committee cannot be called parallel gatherings. 'It would be appropriate to call it a parallel gathering if people in the same committee organize programs in one place based on committee decisions and dissatisfied individuals organize programs in another place,' Bishwakarma said, 'We are not in Gagan Thapa's leadership committee. Therefore, it is not appropriate to call the gatherings we are holding parallel.'< /p>

Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise also said that the Deuba group has the right to hold meetings for their ideas and groups. 'We are allowed to discuss and meet within the framework of the constitution. Such gatherings used to happen in Congress before. They are happening now too,' Spokesperson Chalise told Ratopati. 'The party constitution should not be violated. Formal party decisions should not be disregarded. Strengthening the group and exchanging ideas is a normal thing in a democratic party.'< /p>

Spokesperson Chalise said that when the party is in crisis, groups should unite and move forward rather than dividing into factions. He stated that the party's elders should play such a role.< /p>

'When the party is in crisis, everyone should unite. I urge my elders to do so,' Chalise said. 'They should show us the right path, and we hope they will do so.'< /p>
