Man Arrested in UAE for Foreign Employment Fraud

Kathmandu. A person from Panchthar involved in a foreign employment fraud case and absconding has been arrested from the UAE with the help of Interpol and brought to Nepal.

The arrested person has been identified as Subas Lawati, 36, of Miklajung Rural Municipality-5, Panchthar. Nepal Police stated that he was arrested in coordination with NCB Abu Dhabi UAE and brought back to Nepal on Thursday for further action.

Lawati had lured victims with the promise of attractive salaries during foreign employment, assuring them he would send them to Serbia. He is accused of defrauding victims by having them deposit a total of 11 lakh 61 thousand rupees into his bank account on various dates, after which he became unreachable.

The Interpol branch of Nepal Police had requested an international search and arrest for him, who was absconding abroad after being involved in the fraud case. Based on that request, the Interpol General Secretariat issued a red notice against Lawati on Shrawan 26, 2082.

Nepal Police Headquarters Interpol Branch informed that the arrested Lawati has been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal, Kathmandu for necessary investigation and legal action.

About 9 months after the Interpol red notice was issued, the police have succeeded in arresting him and bringing him into the legal framework.
