Gunshots Heard at Philippine Senate Building Amid Arrest Attempt

Kathmandu. Gunshots have been fired at the Senate building in Manila, the capital of the Philippines. Local media have reported hearing more than 12 rounds fired inside the parliament building on Wednesday.

This incident occurred amidst an attempt to arrest Philippine Senator Ronald Dela Rosa. Dela Rosa has been accused of crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He is accused of playing a role in alleged killings during former President Rodrigo Duterte's anti-drug campaign.

Dela Rosa has been staying within the parliament premises for the past few days. The Senate leadership has provided him with protective custody.

Gunshots were fired after a police team arrived to arrest Dela Rosa. It is not yet clear who fired the shots.
