MP Rana Stresses Need for Clean Business Environment to Promote Industry

Kathmandu. In the meeting of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives, MP Bidushi Rana has emphasized the need to first create a clean and safe business environment for the promotion of industry and production sector in Nepal.

Speaking in the meeting, MP Rana expressed concern that despite strictness at the border areas, illegal trade in Nepal has been increasing. She stated that such illegal goods are not only coming from outside but are also being produced by unregistered industries within the country. 'Such illegal businesses neither pay taxes to the state nor provide minimum facilities to the workers,' Rana said, 'This discourages honest industrialists and taxpayers who operate by completing legal procedures.'

MP Rana mentioned that illegal trade is not just an economic problem but a serious distortion spread in the country's business culture. She argued that the problem is further exacerbated by the tendency of one government agency blaming another during inspections.

To solve the problem, she demanded the immediate formation of an 'effective joint monitoring mechanism' through a one-door system, involving the Ministry of Commerce, Finance, Home, Customs, and Industry, as well as security agencies. She expressed confidence that only by stopping illegal trade will domestic industries survive, state revenue increase, and ultimately the country's economy strengthen.
