England Cricket Team May Tour Nepal

Kathmandu. The possibility of the England men's cricket team touring Nepal has become strong. 

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has started homework on playing a short T-20I series with Nepal in the international cycle (FTP) from 2027 to 2031. If this tour is successful, England visiting Nepal will be the biggest international team ever.

Nepali cricket has been progressing rapidly in recent years. Last year, Nepal made history by defeating the West Indies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), winning a series against an ICC full member nation for the first time.

However, Nepal has not yet had the opportunity to host any Test nation for a full international tour on its soil. This drought is expected to end in the winter of 2026-27, as Cricket Ireland has already signed a five-year strategic partnership agreement with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and plans to tour Nepal for white-ball series around the same time.

Nepal and England competed for the first time in the T-20 World Cup held in February. In the thrilling match held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, England defeated Nepal on the last ball. After the same match, CAN Secretary Paras Khadka is understood to have met with ECB officials in India and discussed bilateral series.

The ECB is working with other boards on the future tour program (FTP) for 2027-31. England may schedule a two or three-match T-20 series in Nepal before or after touring neighboring India.

Nepali team captain Rohit Paudel had said that the tour of big nations to Nepal during the World Cup would help in the 'globalization' of cricket. 'If Australia or England come to Nepal, it means a lot,' he said, 'It will show the world of cricket that Nepal also plays good cricket.'

On Sunday, Sky Sports broadcast a documentary titled 'Nepal: Climbing Cricket's Mountain', which showcases Nepal's passion for cricket. In the documentary, Paras Khadka said that Nepali cricket currently needs exposure and that the level of players will improve only by playing against Test nations.

According to Khadka, cricket has now settled in the hearts of Nepal's children and this sport has become the biggest link connecting the country, not just a sport. England will host Australia for the Ashes series in their home season of 2027 and will also play white-ball series against Pakistan and New Zealand. On the other hand, England's women's team is also scheduled to play against Bangladesh and Australia in the same year.
