Communist Party Demands Government Explanation for Authoritarian Actions

Kathmandu. The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has demanded an explanation from the government, stating that it is heading towards authoritarianism.

Speaking during the zero hour of the first meeting of the House of Representatives held on Monday, Chief Whip of the parliamentary party, Yuvraj Dulal, demanded a government explanation regarding its work style, which he described as anti-democratic, including the use of bulldozers on squatters' settlements and the recommendation for the Chief Justice through the Constitutional Council.

“The government has forced citizens to commit suicide. Bulldozer terror has been displayed. Will the government be charged with abetting suicide when Indrabahadur Rai commits suicide?”, questioned Dulal. He questioned whether the government, formed with the slogan of rule of law, was moving towards democracy or authoritarianism by running the government outside the rule.

He indicated towards the recommendation of the Chief Justice, stating that in a democracy, the votes of other members present in the Constitutional Council have no justification or agreement, and his party has demanded an explanation for decisions made challenging the constitutional court.
