93 Fall Ill After Food Poisoning at Wedding Feast in Bharatpur

Chitwan. The number of people who fell ill due to 'food poisoning' after eating a wedding feast organized at Chautari Party Palace in Dharmachok of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-4 has reached 93. Of them, 50 are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

According to the Chief of the District Police Office, Superintendent of Police Govinda Puri, those who ate the feast started falling ill on Baisakh 23. Patients are being treated at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan Medical College, and College of Medical Sciences.

Some are undergoing treatment in health institutions including the Civil Hospital and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, he informed. "Out of the 93 people who have fallen ill so far, 50 are undergoing treatment. Two people who were treated in the intensive care unit have been shifted to the ward after their condition improved. Information has been received that the condition of all patients is out of danger," said Superintendent of Police Puri. 

Two people from the party palace have been taken into custody following the incident. The Division Office of Food Technology and Quality Control will conduct further study on this matter, informed Superintendent of Police Puri.

Division Office Chief Pramod Chandra Poudel said that doctors have verbally indicated that the illness was caused by contaminated food and that they would investigate the remaining issues. High blood pressure, severe fever, and diarrhea symptoms have been observed in the patients.
