Nepali Congress Spokesperson Devraj Chalise Comments on Investigation into Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bania

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress Spokesperson Devraj Chalise has made his views public regarding the investigation being conducted by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation into the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province and Bagmati Province Party President Indra Bania. Spokesperson Chalise stated that the rule of law is a fundamental principle of democracy and that obeying the law is the duty of every citizen.  

“All citizens are equal in the eyes of the law, and no one is above the law. It is the duty of every responsible citizen to cooperate with investigations conducted by the state in accordance with the law,” said Spokesperson Chalise.  

Stating that Chief Minister Bania has already publicly committed to fully cooperating with the investigation against him, Spokesperson Chalise described Bania’s move as a democratic tradition and political maturity.  

Spokesperson Chalise has cautioned the state bodies to follow the “due legal process” while Bania has already committed to cooperating with the legal process. Chalise stated that the investigation should be impartial, transparent, and free from prejudice.  

“In the rule of law, the law must apply equally to everyone – those who were in power yesterday, those who are in power today, and those who will be in power tomorrow,” Chalise said.    

He urged state institutions to proceed only on the basis of facts and evidence, not on political prejudice or public hearsay. He also stated that any action by the government should not be “selective” and that a uniform standard should be applied to all.  

Urging leaders and workers to cooperate with the state’s investigation without any obstruction, Chalise urged the government and concerned bodies to work in a lawful manner.
