Pokhara Metropolitan City to Distribute 7,500 Kg Paddy Seed to Farmers

Pokhara. Pokhara Metropolitan City is to distribute 7,500 kilograms of paddy seed to farmers this year.

The Metropolitan City, which collected demand from farmers, is providing paddy seed to them at 50 percent subsidy, informed Manahar Kadariya, Chief of the Agriculture Development Branch. Stating that 21,000 kilograms of paddy seed was demanded by more than one thousand farmers within the metropolis, he said that the demanded amount of seed could not be provided.

According to him, Pokhareli Jetho Budho is highly in demand in Pokhara. He informed that among the seeds the Metropolitan City is distributing, 2,000 kilos are Ram Dhan and the rest are Pokhareli Jetho Budho seeds.

The Metropolitan City buys paddy seed from local farmers at Rs 200 per kilo and provides it at 50 percent subsidy for Rs 100. Informing that farmers are being encouraged for paddy seed production, Kadariya informed that farmers in wards no. 13, 23, 26, 29, 30 etc. within the metropolis are producing seeds.

The Metropolitan City also provides paddy seed produced through the biological resource conservation campaign for the conservation of local paddy varieties like Anadi and Pahelo to the farmers, informed Branch Chief Kadariya.
