Nepali Congress Dissolves Youth Wings for Failing to Hold Conventions

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress has decided to dissolve most of its sister organizations that have failed to hold their conventions on time.

A meeting of the Central Working Committee held on Monday determined that the central committees of sister organizations that could not complete their conventions within the stipulated deadline and for which there was no basis for convention were automatically dissolved.

The party had previously given an ultimatum to the sister organizations for which ad-hoc committees were formed to complete their conventions by the end of Chaitra 2081. Later, the Central Committee meeting held from Asar 16 to 23, 2082, extended the deadline only for those organizations that presented a work schedule. However, the Congress stated that despite the facilitation by the steering committee, most organizations did not follow the work schedule and there was no concrete basis for holding conventions.

Meanwhile, the central president of the Nepal Tarun Dal, Bidwan Gurung, and the central president of the Nepal Dalit Sangh, Lok Bahadur Bishwakarma, have already resigned from their posts. For this reason, the central committees of all sister organizations whose terms have expired, including those, have been automatically dissolved.

According to spokesperson Devraj Chalise, all decisions and nominations made by these expired committees after their term ended have also been deemed 'automatically invalid'.

He stated that the responsibility for making new arrangements regarding the sister organizations that could not hold their conventions has now been given to party president Gagan Thapa. In accordance with Article 42(1) of the Nepali Congress statute, the president has been given full responsibility to ensure the conventions of these organizations and to form new ad-hoc committees.

Although other sister organizations have been dissolved, a different decision has been made regarding the Nepal Tharu Sangh. Since the Tharu Sangh has already set the dates for its convention on Jestha 16 and 17, 2083, the term of the executive committee of that organization has been extended until that period.
