Government Intensifies Drive to Clear Encroachments on Riverbanks in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu. The government has intensified the campaign to clear informal settlements on the banks of rivers in the Kathmandu Valley and public land. 

As part of this, bulldozers were run today on structures built on encroached land in the Sattale area of Kapan, under Budhanilkantha Municipality.

In accordance with the government's preparation to remove shacks and permanent structures that have been occupying rivers and public land for a long time, bulldozers were started early this morning with a heavy presence of security personnel. Government officials stated that this step has been taken to solve the problem of flooding during the monsoon season in the Kapan area and to restore the natural flow of the river.
