Encroachments Removed from Bagmati River Banks; Protests Held

Kathmandu. The work of removing encroached settlements along the banks of the Bagmati and its tributaries in the Kathmandu Valley continued on Saturday. In coordination with the federal government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, houses and huts along the Bishnumati River and Dhobi Khola River banks in Ward-16, Balaju, Kathmandu are being removed today.

The removal of illegal structures in areas such as Swayambhu, Balaju-Gongabu Buspark, and Devinaagar is ongoing. The government had removed risky settlements along the river banks in Balkhu and Kalimati areas on Friday.

So far, approximately two thousand houses and huts that were illegally constructed by encroaching government, public, and private land in the Kathmandu Valley have been removed. Families affected by the eviction process have been sent to a 'holding center'.
