Roads Affected by Floods and Landslides Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Due to recent continuous rainfall, traffic services have been affected as floods and landslides have occurred on various main highways of the country. According to statistics released by the Nepal Police, as of 8:00 AM today, some sections of Kosi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces have been completely or partially obstructed.

In Kosi Province, the Kosi Highway in Sankhuwasabha has been completely obstructed. This highway has been blocked since a landslide occurred at 4:00 PM on July 17 in Barun of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4. Similarly, in Bhojpur Municipality-5, Bokhim, the road on the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur has been obstructed due to floods. However, one-way traffic has been resumed through an alternative route.

In Sindhupalchok, the Arniko Highway has been completely obstructed due to the Iku landslide in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Kodari. Since the landslide occurred at 6:30 PM on July 16, traffic has been stopped on this road section connecting to the border with China.

Roads have also been affected by landslides in Myagdi. The Beni-Jomsom road section has been affected by a landslide in Jalathale of Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 on the evening of July 16. Currently, traffic has been resumed on a one-way basis after clearing the landslide at that location.

The Department of Roads and security agencies are making efforts to clear the obstructed roads. The general public has been urged to contact the traffic police or the District Administration Office of the respective districts to inquire about the road conditions before embarking on a journey.
