Sukumbasi Found Dead in Bagmati River Amidst Government Bulldozing

Kathmandu. While the government is running a bulldozer campaign in the slum settlements, a slum dweller has been found dead in the Bagmati river. 

The deceased has been identified as Indrabahadur Rai, aged approximately 55-60, originally from Khotang. 

According to SP Pawan Bhattarai of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, locals reported seeing a body near the waste collection center in Kathmandu-14. Bhattarai stated that his family used to live in the slum settlement in Teku. 

The government bulldozed the area on Friday. Earlier, a notice was issued on Wednesday evening to vacate the area. 

 'Locals say he had not been coming home for a few days. Today his body was found with a bundle of clothes,' said SP Bhattarai, adding, 'We are investigating this matter further.'

Earlier, there were reports of a 17-year-old boy from the Thapathali slum settlement committing suicide, but the police have not yet confirmed it.
