Nepali Congress Launches 'Jara Abhiyan' to Strengthen Grassroots Membership

Kathmandu. The Nepali Congress's 'Jara Abhiyan' (Root Campaign) commenced today as General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa updated his active membership from his ward, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30.

According to the party office, the campaign, which will run throughout the month of Baisakh, aims to disseminate the party's vision and message on national issues while simultaneously updating active memberships to foster party awareness and transformation at the local level.

Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise stated that this campaign will help 'nurture the roots' of the 'tree' (the party symbol) and revitalize the organization. He noted that since the party has been in the role of the main opposition following the elections on Falgun 21, this campaign is dedicated to strengthening the party's role and, by extension, the nation, its systems, and society.

The campaign aims to foster a shared vision and cooperation among parliamentary parties on issues of national interest, national security, and sovereignty. It also seeks to initiate policy, legal, and structural efforts to strengthen the emotional roots within the country, in line with the party's manifesto regarding the rights and security of Nepalis living abroad.

Spokesperson Chalise further explained that the campaign aims to enhance the Nepali Congress's role as a supportive yet vigilant force in parliament, seeking timely perspectives and result-oriented cooperation on constitutional amendments without compromising democratic values.

The campaign also includes objectives to collaborate on drafting laws necessary for strengthening federalism, reviewing the performance of provincial governments where the Congress is a participant, and adopting strategies to make these governments more effective.

To improve the effectiveness of local governance, the campaign intends to convey positive messages, promote equitable development beyond partisan interests, and increase the efficacy of party leaders and cadres at the provincial and local levels.

The party also stated that it will engage in dialogue with youth to provide momentum according to their vision, seek broader cooperation between the state, political parties, and the private sector, and encourage the expansion of the private sector's morale and scope.

The campaign further aims to promote harmony across ethnic, class, religious, social, and cultural groups, collaborate to control discrimination and social anomalies, and foster open dialogue within the party. It also includes a 'return home' call to those who have drifted away from the party for various reasons, and aims to increase organizational momentum from the center down to the local levels.

The objectives also include reviewing the work of the party's sister and well-wisher organizations, ensuring their effectiveness at the 'root' level, and preparing for the party's 15th General Convention scheduled for Ashoj with enthusiasm and renewed confidence, while disseminating the vision and policies adopted by the special convention.
