Barcelona Strengthens La Liga Lead with Dominant Catalan Derby Victory

Kathmandu. Barcelona, currently in the race for the Spanish La Liga title, has further solidified its position at the top of the table by comfortably defeating its neighbor and rival Espanyol in the Catalan derby. With a 4-1 victory, Barcelona has secured a clear 9-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid in the league standings.

Barcelona, appearing aggressive from the start, took the lead in the ninth minute. Ferran Torres scored with a header from a brilliant corner by young star Lamine Yamal to give the team an early advantage. In the 25th minute, Torres added his second goal of the match. Receiving a precise pass from Yamal, Torres bypassed Espanyol goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic to find the back of the net.

Today's match was particularly special for Barcelona's 18-year-old star Lamine Yamal. At 18 years and 272 days old, Yamal became the youngest player to reach 100 appearances for Barcelona. In this historic match, he provided two excellent assists and also scored a goal towards the end of the game.

Espanyol, which was under pressure in the first half, showed some improvement in the second half. Pol Lozano scored in the 56th minute to bring the game to 2-1, attempting to put pressure on Barcelona. Espanyol's Fernando Calero also had an opportunity to score with a header, but his effort went just wide of the post.

In the final moments of the match, Barcelona secured the win by adding two goals within two minutes. Yamal scored into an empty net, and English forward Marcus Rashford, who came on as a substitute, scored the fourth goal with a brilliant volley in the 89th minute. 

With seven games remaining in the league, Hansi Flick's team is very close to defending its title. Now, Barcelona's focus will shift to Tuesday's Champions League match against Atletico Madrid, where they face the challenge of overcoming a two-goal deficit to advance to the next round. 

Defeated Espanyol remains in 10th place in the league, despite being winless for 14 consecutive matches.
