CPN-UML Bagmati Leader Thapaliya Accuses Federal Government of Authoritarianism

Makwanpur. CPN-UML Bagmati Province Parliamentary Party leader Jagannath Thapaliya has accused the current federal government of moving toward authoritarianism and engaging in political vendetta. Leader Thapaliya stated that the government's recent activities are contrary to democratic values and norms.

Addressing the Bagmati Provincial Assembly meeting that began on Tuesday, leader Thapaliya expressed his objection to the government's retaliatory actions against former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak without sufficient investigation. 

Welcoming the order issued by the honorable Supreme Court on the matter, he demanded the immediate release of the leaders. Questioning the government's working style, Thapaliya stated that decisions such as closing and then reopening educational consultancy centers have exposed the government's immaturity and instability. He remarked that decisions like setting office hours at 9 AM and granting Sunday holidays were made arbitrarily without considering practical aspects.

‘The act of arresting and detaining Chairman Oli and leader Lekhak is condemnable and objectionable. This is a direct example of the government's authoritarian tendency and insensitivity,’ he said.

He questioned the government's silence regarding the issues of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura. He stated that accepting concessional loans after pledging not to take foreign debt is merely deceiving the public. He advised the government to focus on result-oriented performance.
