CIAA files corruption case against Bardiya municipality engineer

Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case in the Special Court against Engineer Mohan Dev Malla of Barbardiya Municipality, Bardiya.

He has been charged with accepting a bribe of 150,000 rupees from a service seeker under the pretext of facilitating the final bill payment for the construction of a school building.

Engineer Malla, working in the municipality's Building and Settlement Development Branch, had demanded the bribe for measuring and approving the final bill of a four-room school building constructed in Rambhapur, Ward No. 7.

Based on this information, a team deployed from the CIAA's Butwal office and Nepalgunj contact office apprehended him with the bribe amount of 150,000 rupees.

Following an investigation by the CIAA, which confirmed that Engineer Malla had accepted the bribe with malicious intent, a charge sheet was filed against him today. According to the Commission's Assistant Spokesperson Ganesh Bahadur Adhikari, a claim of 150,000 rupees has been established against Malla for the offense under Section 3, Sub-section (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
The CIAA has registered the case in the Special Court, Kathmandu, demanding a fine and imprisonment equivalent to the bribe amount.
