Senior MP Arjun Narsingh KC Calls for Radical Reform in Governance and Political Culture

Kathmandu. Senior member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narsingh KC, has stated that the Nepali people are expecting not just a change in the face of the government, but a radical transformation in the style, culture, and ethos of governance. Addressing the first meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, he noted that the public holds great hope, trust, and curiosity regarding the current government and this parliament. 

He emphasized that this parliament, formed through a fresh mandate, must address the public's trust through result-oriented actions. Speaking at the meeting, KC described the 100-point governance reform agenda recently unveiled by the Council of Ministers as welcome. 

He stated that proper time management, total dedication, and impartiality are essential for its successful implementation. He expressed the view that all political forces must unite behind the spirit of inclusivity, equality, and popular sovereignty envisioned by the nation's constitution. He placed special emphasis on the need for unity over division, consciousness over agitation, and wisdom over impulse to meet national requirements. 

KC recalled that the repeated dissolution of the House of Representatives in the past and the resulting political instability have severely impacted every sector of national life. Expressing concern over the decline in the impartiality and autonomy of constitutional institutions, he stated that such trends must now come to a complete end. Noting that weaknesses in parliamentary practice have hindered policy-making and the process of holding the government accountable, he stated that bills related to development, the economy, and good governance must now be prioritized. 

Stating that despite repeated political changes, there has been no improvement in the trends corresponding to the system, he said the new government must now demonstrate a new working style. He argued that the main responsibility of this House is to provide the people, who are weary of old ideas and behaviors, with the experience of a new culture and ethos. 

Urging all members to express their views in civilized language to make the parliament decent and dignified, he called for transforming public faith and hope into results through practical policies and plans.
