Student Union Condemns Arrests of Top Political Leaders, Calls for Immediate Release

Kathmandu. The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) has strongly objected to the detention of CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. The organization has labeled this action as politically motivated and a mockery of the rule of law.

A statement issued by ANNFSU Central Chairman Dipak Dhami mentioned that the top leaders were detained in a prejudiced manner less than 24 hours after the government was formed. The statement read, 'This kind of act, based on abstract interpretations that cannot be legally substantiated, mocks the minimum tenets of jurisprudence and the rule of law.'

The organization concluded that the treatment meted out by the government to leaders who dedicated their lives to Nepal's democratic movement is highly condemnable. ANNFSU has also questioned the intentions of the current government.

ANNFSU has demanded the immediate release of the detained leaders from the government and relevant bodies. Furthermore, it has directed its subordinate committees across the country to strongly protest this action.
