Five Drivers Arrested in Kavrepalanchok for Operating Vehicles Under Influence of Narcotics

Five drivers were apprehended by police in Banepa, Kavrepalanchok, for operating vehicles while under the influence of narcotics and intoxicating substances on the Arniko Highway. During a special check conducted on Thursday afternoon in Janagal, Ward No. 8 of Banepa Municipality, the drivers of passenger buses and a water tanker were found to have consumed drugs.

A joint team from the District Traffic Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, and the Area Police Office, Banepa, tested the drivers' urine using drug kits with assistance from technicians at Shir Memorial Hospital. Out of 39 suspicious vehicles whose drivers were stopped for testing, five tested positive.

The arrested individuals include 26-year-old Samir Tamang and 20-year-old Rohit Ghataani Bishwakarma, drivers for Mahanagar Bus; 38-year-old Samir Mahat of Punyawati Yatayat; 32-year-old Mahesh Chaudhary of Mayur Yatayat; and 26-year-old Sugam Bhujel, the driver of the water tanker. It was discovered that they were driving vehicles while intoxicated, endangering the lives of hundreds of passengers on public roads.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kavre, this operation was launched based on confidential information regarding driving under the influence of narcotics. The arrested drivers have been kept at the Area Police Office, Banepa, for further investigation and legal action.
